My eyes immediately roamed the condo unit as soon as we entered. He has a minimalist interior condominium. The colors were a mix of black, white, and gray. It has a stair and underneath is built-in cabinets, for books to linen. It also has a polished wooden floor that is kept clean.
His kitchen was on the other wall making it look chastely organized with the combination of white and black wood. The island doubles as a dining table, complete with bar stools that can seat 2-3 people.
“You like it here?” I heard him ask. I nodded and kept my eyes on the subtle details of his condo.
“Will I sleep here?” I looked at him, only to see him remove his coat.
“Yeah, I already tell your parents.”
“Uh, I don't have any shirt.”
“I have mine. You can use those,” he answered and sat on the sofa next to his television. I sighed and walked near him.
“I need to change,” I said as I put my backpack on the center table. He watches me remove my blazer and put it on my arms. “I want to sleep.”
“Hmm, don't sleep yet. We'll talk about something.”
“About what?”
“Go take your bath first, young lady. Then we'll talk.” He narrowed his gray eyes on me before I saw him take the remote control of the television and turned it on.
I did what he said. I entered the only room on the top side of his condo. The theme was a mix of black and white with a bit of beige. It has a bed in the middle and a bedside table. Near the bathroom was his closet. The room also has a balcony.
I got myself a pair of jogging pants, a white shirt from his closet, and an unused boxer that I saw. I did my thing inside the bathroom.
Later that night, I put my uniform on the bed when Denver entered. He watched me walk around his room as he took his way to his bed and sit.
“What are you doing?”
“I'm about to wash my uniform. I don't have to wear for tomorrow.” I was about to turn my way back to the bathroom when he grab my wrist and push me slightly onto the bed. I gasped when he took all my clothes from my arms before he put them in the basket near his bathroom door.
“D-denver.”
“What?” He furrowed. He looked annoyed while making his way to the bed. He got a folder and a pen on the bedside table before he showed it to me.
“What is this?”
“A contract.”
My eyes darted at the folder before I opened it. I read the first thing I saw.
Certificate of Marriage?
“We'll get married today?” I asked with my eyes still on the paper. It has already my name and his. The only need is for me to sign this.
“I need to process it as soon as possible,” he said as he also read it with me. “Sign it.”
With my hand shaking, I signed the paper before I gave it to him. I heard him sigh as he put the paper back on the bedside table.
He glanced at me but I just timidly smile. I know... He doesn't want this. But I need this.
I remain sitting on the bed until I felt it move. Denver stood up and grabbed the towel near him.
“Sleep now, young lady. You still need to be early tomorrow.”
I nodded hesitantly before I lay down my body on the bed. I don't know why my heart felt heavy when I signed that paper. I should expect that to happen but my mind keeps asking why Denver needs to process it as soon as possible.
It was discussed that I should marry him after my graduation which will happen next year. I'm quite confused that he didn't wait for that day to happen. He must have a plan on his mind.
And that is what I need to know.
I'm disappointed. But I should expect this. Only I am the one who wants to marry him. He hates that he will be tied up to someone at a young age. He's just 22 and I'm just 18.
I closed my eyes but my mind was busy on its own. I can't sleep with these thoughts inside of me. I sat back as I hear the water gushing down while Denver was inside the bathroom.
I should be casual to him, right? He's my husband... Now. But how will I do that? I bit my lips as I think of a way to approach him. Should I ask him how will be our set up from now on? And besides, will I live here with him?
I need him to explain everything to me. I want to know how will I act in front of him. Will I pretend that we don't know each other? It should be a pretend set-up, right?
“Why are you still up?” I heard him casually ask. He was only wearing his pajama as he walk near the bed with the white t-shirt he was holding. My face blushed with the sight of him. His well-toned chest, his biceps, his six-pack abs. There are all in their right place. And I see them up close.
I gulped. completely dazed as he came close to me. “D-denver...”
“You keep calling me by my first name, huh?”
“I'm sorry.”
“Can't sleep?” he asked as he wears his white t-shirt.
“Yes.” I sighed. I avoided my gaze on him and quickly moved aside to let him sit. He obliged and keep his distance from me. “What just happened?”
He chuckles as he keeps his back on the headboard. “You're still surprised?”
“It happened too fast,” I mumbled and glance at him. “And I'm curious what you feel right now. Are you mad?”
He stared at me. I keep my eyes on his gray orbs. My eyes went down to his lips as he simply bite them. I gulped when I felt the tension rise I quickly look up to meet his gaze.
“You want to know what I feel towards you?”
I simply nodded even though my hands begin to shake. He looks intimidating when he used that tone. Very authoritative and as if he always wants to get what he wants.
“I hate you for agreeing to this fuck-up marriage, but I can't hate you too much because you're too innocent for me.”
My eyes widened when he caressed my cheeks. His thumb was gently moving up and down as he stared at me deeply.
“This cheeks, this lips...” He caressed my lips with his thumb. “Your eyes... Your face... Reminds me that you're too innocent for this marriage.”
“D-denver...”
“But I respect your decision, young lady,” he mumbled and removed his hand on my cheeks. “If I can only disobey my father, you wouldn't be in this situation.”
“W-what do you mean?”
He sighed, completely drowning in his thoughts. “Just like what you did... I will also do the same.”
