CHAPTER 6

“Stella!” he called but his girl kept going away. “I told you I’m sorry” he added.
Stella glared at him, “It doesn’t feel sincere” she said. Silas tsked, he did everything to console Stella but he can’t make any progress.
“What do you want me to do? Buy you things, take you somewhere, or buy you something to eat?” he asked while making his way to Stella and holding up the long cloth from his uniform to avoid staining it.
Without answering, Stella looked at him and laughed.
“What’s so funny? Aren’t you mad at me?” he asked again. Stella continued laughing and said, “You look gay while tucking up your cassock”.
“That’s so evil. Of course, I don’t want my uniform stained! It’s hard to do the laundry” he answered. Stella stopped laughing and gave him a strange look, “Do you want me to wash your
clothes instead?” she asked.
“No way. I can do it my own” he replied. Stella went near him with a teasing look. She had her pointing finger caressed on Silas’ cheek. “If I do this, will you be teased? I read something that says even an altar server can make something bad” she said. Silas held her wrist, “You can’t do that here, Stella. We do things like usual people do but I have my word. I promised not to cause mess for the sake of the ministry” he replied.
“Anyway, let’s change the topic before things get complicated again. What do you plan on doing next free time?” she asked.
Silas replied, “I don’t know. If some things happen unexpectedly, I’m afraid we won’t have a
date. But if my mom doesn’t visit me again on that day, then lucky you”.

“How about me, meeting your mom?” she asked.
“Oh no, that’s the hardest thing that a boy can do. You should meet her in the perfect time and in the perfect place. You know what I mean, it’s just that, we just started and it’s too early for that” he replied.
“Yeah right, you and your reasons” she said. Silas remained silent while Stella kept taking back
her words. “I apologize for that. I understand our decision, I just get too assuming whenever I’m
excited” she said.
Silas looked at her, “You don’t need to say sorry. When time comes, I’ll be the one to tell her about you” he said.
Stella smiled, “Really? Can you promise that?” she asked.
“I can’t say that I can promise because you know that promises can be broken” he answered.
Stella sighed, “I still can’t believe that you’re mine and I am yours. I still remember the day when I first stared at you. Your eyes were directly focused on your Lord. You kept sighing until
time passed; you’re still on the same place, kneeling and bending but that time, you were
smiling as if you felt comfort while talking to Him” she said.
“Really? You noticed all of that?” Silas asked.
Stella nodded, “Can you teach me how you managed living with your faith? I mean, you can explain it to me even in the Christian way” she said.
Silas replied, “One time, I had this accident. I think I was going to die back then because one of
my friends died because of drunk driving. I was a passenger and I got some injuries that I’ve
never encountered before. My parents were disappointed and because of my injuries, I was dropped out from college”.
Stella is all ears; she’s trying to process every word Silas is uttering because she lost her faith since they moved in that country.
Silas continued, “I still can remember the pain that I felt last year. Because of that injury, I can’t
play my favorite sport. I also got scars all over my body; I tried to take my own life because my parents think that I am a failure. But one day, I woke up like I’m not depressed; the night before that, I had the greatest mental breakdown but that’s my longest talk to Him” he smirked.
“That’s when I realize, maybe I am destined to serve in His place. Maybe I’m wronged and this will make the paths straight for me to take. I found myself serving here and it feels nice until I decided to take it officially. My parents supported me fully because I told them that I feel at ease and happy here” he added.
Stella asked, “You know not every decision should require you to be happy after taking it. Instead, a decision should come with willingness. Happiness won’t solve anything, right?”.
“Just like us. We’re happy together but this doesn’t feel right” he said.
“Yes, this isn’t right. You had faith because of your devotion; how can I have mine?” she asked
again,
“Honestly, I don’t know. I once find answers to that question also but I answered it myself. You will soon realize what’s the purpose of faith for you or on how you can work with it. Learn from your experience and try to reflect” he answered. He looked up to the sky and stared at the moon.
“The moon shines bright this night” Stella said while feeling the nostalgia. “Before, whenever I miss someone, I just stare at the moon and sometimes talk to it also.
Hoping the one I miss is staring at it too” he shared.
“All my worries are left behind for a moment whenever I do star gazing. It is too good to be true” Stella said.
“Just like you. You’re just too good to be true” he replied.
Stella added, “And you can’t take your eyes off me?” she asked while looking at Silas who’s currently staring at her.
“I can stare at you all day. How can you be so adorable?” he asked.
“You keep complimenting me. It makes me more attached, constantly hating the fact that we’re
going to part ways again later” she replied.
The two stood up after glaring at each other for quite some time.
Stella said, “It’s already dinnertime. We should go now”. Silas didn’t utter a single word. Instead, he grabbed Stella’s arm and tugged her close to him. He
touched Stella’s face and put it closer to him until few inches were only left for them to get
sticked with each other.
Stella looked at Silas’ glowing eyes. And just as quickly, Silas moved his lips and touched Stella’s;
the two enjoyed their first kiss under the bright moon and twinkling stars.
The church lights were lit; the two heard Xavier’s voice, “Silas, are you there?” he asked.
The two pushed away each other while chasing their breaths. Silas answered, “I’m here. I’ll be there in a minute!”
Stella hid herself upon hearing Xavier’s voice. She faced the church and had her thoughts gambling on things if they did right, or they did wrong.
Silas faced her and chuckled, “That was a wrong timing” he said.
“That was my first kiss. You were my first” she said while carefully touching her lips.
Silas was shocked, “That wasn’t my first…” he said and had his lips closed.
“No way. This gave me the unusual feels. This is how it felt; how about to you?” she asked.
“It felt good. I actually enjoyed it” Silas answered. Stella’s face got red; she’s blushing and she can’t resist smiling.
“You’re blushing. Did you enjoy it too?” Silas asked her.
“You’re such a perv Silas!” she said while covering her face. Silas kept chuckling and after a while, they called it a day.
