Mortal Friend

Because of her vampire ability, she can easily tell the culprit by just looking at them. She can read their mind.
"Whatever." She sighed deeply and sat back on her swivel chair, taking a sip from her glass to alleviate her frustration by tasting a drop of blood. Being a short-tempered person is in her blood.
"Whoa, thank you for the food!" Althea's eyes lit up when she saw the food on the table.
"Yeah, whatever." She mumbled as she rolls her eyes. She knows that she can't consume human food as soon as she tasted blood.
"Can I have some wine too?" Althea demanded, seeing the glass that she is holding.
Rue looked at her and rolled her eyes. She doesn't even have any idea what she's drinking.
"No, you can make some coffee instead." She answers, sounding like a child who refused to share her candies.
Althea laughed as she rose up to prepare some coffee. She has seen her multiple times in such manner and she would say the same thing every time she asked for them.
She simply assumed that her friend was hooked to a specific type of wine that she constantly drinks.
"What exactly brings you here?" Rue asked, her gaze fix on her half-empty glass.
"Actually, I have an unusual situation." She started as she waits for her coffee to brew on the coffee maker.
"And?" Rue raised her left brow, sat back in her chair, and took a drink from her glass.
"It's not just one instance, but I discovered multiple cases with the same case throughout consecutive weeks." She explained, before going to the table with her coffee and taking an envelope from her bag and placing it on the table.
Rue quickly finished her glass and placed it in the sink before going to the center table and retrieving the files on the envelope.
She took out all the files and spread them out on the table, leaving enough space between them to prevent the files from becoming congested with the food remaining on the table.
"First, there's a 52-year-old man who lives with his family and was discovered dead on their sofa about midnight, between 2 and 3 a.m. Her wife is not at home that time, she is a doctor." Althea said as she opened the meal she brought and began digging in.
Rue remained silent as she continues reading the first case with eagle eyes, scanning all the details.
"And the cause of death was a heart attack, which seems like a natural accident, right?" She said, chewing her meal on her mouth.
Rue only nodded, agreeing with her statement.
"Then there's the second case, which is a 29 years old man, he lives with his partner but the girl is on her family's house during the accident. He found dead on their bedroom, tied up with a string around his neck, a suicide." She paused to take another piece of her food.
"And that also happened around midnight. What a coincidence, isn't it?" She said while chewing her food.
Rue only shrugged her shoulder, reviewing the instances, calmly listening to her every words.
"The third case, a 24-year-old male living alone, was discovered dead on their bed, he died from blood loss. He was stabbed numerous times in the back, and it again happened at midnight." Althea added, prompting her to stop perusing the papers in her hand and looked at her.
'It has a pattern.' Rue concluded after she hears the information of every case.
"There is a pattern on every situation. If it occurs once, it's an accident, and if it happens twice, it's a coincidence." Rue blurted out while they're looking at one other with intent in their eyes.
"But if that happened three times, it's well planned." They both said in chorus, Rue sat in the chair in front of Althea.
"I told you. It gives me goosebumps, it's very bizarre," Althea remarks, rubbing her palms together on her arms. She looked at her while wiping her lips with a tissue.
"You should cut down on your coffee consumption," Rue teased her as she placed the files on the table.
"I'm not kidding. From a heart attack to suicide to murder," Althea stated, convincingly telling the truth.
"How was the evidence in the current case?" she crossed her arms on her chest and leaned her back in her chair.
"Unfortunately, we didn't find anything, and there are no suspects. We have reviewed the CCTV of the home during that time, but guess what?" Althea paused and took a drink of her coffee.
"Spill it." Rue said with annoyed voice, rolling her eyes at her.
"All the CCTV in the home is operating except for the section of the crime scene that is not working which is on the bedroom." Althea added, her voice sounded intrigued.
"How about the CCTV from the other two cases?" Rue said, instinctively tapping her fingers in a domino pattern on the table.
"The first case doesn't have CCTV on their house, and the second and third cases are the same." Althea observed Rue's twitching fingers, she knew she was deep in contemplation.
"For the time being, we don't have any solid proof, simply a hunch." Rue said after a brief pause.
"But as detectives, we don't let anything slide away that appears strange. We have to wait and monitor for the next move." She said, her voice firm.
"As expected, I can definitely rely on you." Althea said, her face beaming with delight.
"This isn't for free, you know." Rue remarked sarcastically.
"I'm willing to sacrifice everything as long as someone believes me with my guts." Althea stated boldly, her smile still on her face.
Rue just rolled her eyes as she remembered how many times Althea had come to her to vent about her co employees. They are calling her insane for handling each issue in a unique manner.
Althea left her office when she received a call from the site, while she's on her sit still contemplating on the case.
