“YOU should hide already, sis,” Rio calmly suggested as if he wasn't part of this scheme. Sapphie wanted to smack his head right at that moment. But she was freaking out so she would have to do it later.
She was already losing it and her hands were shaking. “Help me out here!”
“Under the table, sis,” he said casually.
She had already thought of that, but it was too obvious. She was screaming internally. At any second now, she knew the man would storm in. At that moment, she wished she could disappear into thin air. Why did she have to say that to his girlfriend anyway? And besides, it was impossible for someone to take palm reading seriously. It should just be simply for fun, not some kind of a lifetime decision.
“Sis, come on! You’re staring into space again!” Rio snapped his fingers in front of her face.
Both she and Rio jumped when the tent suddenly flew open violently.
The handsome guy entered without invitation. He looked around, and the moment he spotted her, it only took him two strides to reach her. He did not yank her arm, but his grip was firm.
“What the hell did you tell her?!” he snapped, leaning down, his face a little closer to hers.
She feigned innocence. “I-I don’t know what you’re talking about…”
“You don’t know, or you’re just lying? Stop pretending you’re innocent. Her mood suddenly changed when she walked out of your tent. I’m sure you told her something. And whatever it was, I’m going to find out, and you’re going to pay for it.”
Her nose practically flared in irritation. “Whatever your problem is, don’t blame it on me. I'm just a palm reader or a fortune teller. You two know your relationship better than I do. Whatever I said should not trigger anything if there wasn’t already a problem in your relationship in the first place. Both of you should have done something to fix whatever was wrong between you.”
“Whatever’s going on with my relationship is none of your business.”
“So that’s what it is then,” she said challengingly as she met his gaze. She didn’t want to back down against this man. The audacity of him to accuse her of something. If anything, he should be talking to his girlfriend and try to sort things out with her.
He roughly let go of her afterward. She did not lose her balance, but she still threw him a sharp glare. “I swear…” He did not finish the sentence, but there was a clear warning in his voice.
She accepted the challenge and held his gaze. She honestly could not care less. Besides, she was never going to see this guy again anyway.
He gave her one last look before storming out of the tent. Both she and Rio let out deep sighs of relief. It felt like a thorn had finally been pulled from their sides. Rio even peeked outside to make sure the man was really gone.
“Woah, that was intense,” he commented before grinning. “He’s also freaking hot!”
She rolled her eyes at him, one hand pressed against her chest trying to calm herself down. “Oh, stop it!”
He laughed. “But it’s true.” He slung an arm around her shoulders. “Did you notice his biceps? Ugh, yummy!”
She pinched him on the side. He caught her hand and flicked it away. “Your gay panic is acting up again. Didn’t you see how he looked like he could eat people alive?”
Rio giggled. “I wouldn’t mind him eating me.”
She smacked him. “You’re such a flirt. Stop dreaming. Help me pack up the stuff already before he comes back and terrorize us again.”
“Oh, lucky me if he does come back.”
“I would rather he wouldn’t,” she said. “But I’m sure I’ll never see that guy again anyway.”
“Uh-huh, sis. I have a feeling you two are definitely going to meet again.”
“Shut up,” she said, giving him a look.
But if that actually happened, she knew she would seriously panic. She remembered what Rio once told her about pretending to be a fortune teller, that eventually she would face the consequences and probably meet her match.
