In Love Unfettered, Samson Babatunde Olasehinde weaves an engaging and intriguing story about the personal growth and maturing love of two African youth: Adigun, a young man in his late teens and Aduke, the young lady he meets and with whom he develops a romantic interest. While the setting takes place in the Yoruba community, Nigeria, Olasehinde’s development of the main characters – as well as their families and other social relationships – displays the universality of human nature. Particularly, how love begins and matures through many twists and turns - and even dead-ends and reversals – as the persons finally achieve a responsible and authentic love. Olasehinde is a masterful storyteller. He carefully and creatively devotes much attention to introducing the reader to all the characters as they appear – and likewise to familiarizing the reader with the various settings in which the plot unfolds. His style is engaging and never artificial. Once I began reading, my attention and imagination were continuously captivated. Any narrative detours in character development and setting are expertly handled without disrupting the flow of the story. While the story focuses on the two young lovers - the ups and downs of their mutual attraction and their hesitations and doubts about the strength of their relationship - Olasehinde introduces intrigue and interference by their families and significant friends. This creates a tension that unfolds in their relationship, drives the plot, and causes the reader to wonder if the couple will ever succeed in staying together and ultimately marrying each other. The story quickly moves toward a climax as a devious and deadly plot by the rejected suitor in this love triangle backfires - leading to a surprising ending. Professor Richard Novak, USA
