Boys and Beasts

Kaya’s POV
He leaned in and immediately my heart rate increased. Not that it hadn’t run a marathon already when we first saw him. But why was he standing so close to me? I knew he knew he had an effect on me. No screw that, if you’re that gorgeous you must know your effect on everyone within a fifty-foot radius. So of course he knew that being this close to me was doing to the rate of my heartbeat, considering the fact that the last time he was this close to me his hands could not be tamed-
"Is that an offer?" He whispered, his voice as beautiful as the one in my dreams. I still couldn't believe, he was actually talking to me. Actually standing this close to me, I thought it would never happen again after Khloe.
I run out of breath only able to nod. The anticipation of what would happen next, holding me at gunpoint. I knew I shouldn’t feel this way for a jerk like Azian, but I couldn’t control my feelings or my thoughts.  My breaths came out short and heavy, wanting what I was thinking was going to happen, to happen next, but he only came so close, then stopped and walked away.
I was officially confused.
I pulled my headsets out of my ears breathing heavily, pulling myself out of my thoughts. The vents of what happened earlier this morning replaying in my mind like a psycho tornado, staring at the library entrance from across the road.
I didn't understand the guy.
And what did he mean by ‘is that an offer?’
I shouldn’t be thinking about this, thinking about him. He was probably just messing with my head and my emotions, trying to get under my skin. If I didn’t know better I would have said he had flirted a little bit, but I would be damned if he thought he could get the cake and cream too. I was better than that. I couldn’t let him play me like a violin whilst he treated my stupid step-sister like the only frickin girl world. It didn’t matter if he was prince charming himself. I was not going to be the weak ‘fall into his arms and turn to a side piece’ kind of girl.  I deserved better, this stupid year was just kicking my ass.
Assuring myself of this, I took a deep breath out, running a hand through my hair as I crossed the road, headed straight into the library, putting my phone into my jacket pocket. The town library was exceptionally big, not too large though, but I must admit could hold quite a lot of books as they were rows upon rows.
I made my way straight to the books about fantasy creatures, realizing that they were surprisingly many. Young Adult fantasy is a thing...like a big deal, I noted reading through so interesting titles, but not the specific one I was looking for.
I swooped through the titles vainly searching for the one book I needed, to no avail. I groaned turning around, leaning on a shelf.
I watched as a woman came into the row with a bunch of books in her arms and started packing them.
A librarian.
Bingo. I walked towards her, tapping her on the shoulder, "excuse me miss," She turned towards me, pushing her glasses down. She looked a little over forty, with hints of wrinkles but luscious brown hair pulled up in a bun. She wore a plain grey dress that went a little way past her knees.
She was aging well, with no cap. "Yes, my dear?" She asked, her accent a blissful posh.
"I’m sorry to bother, but I'm looking for a particular book,” I began, “I was hoping you might have, hmm…‘Creatures of the moon?'"
Her eyebrows furrowed for a moment then brightened, "Creatures of the moon?" She repeated.
I nodded, giving her the most hopeful smile in the world. I had no idea where else I would find it if a copy wasn’t in this library.
"Funny,” she began turning her full attention to me, “that book has been seated on that shelf for as long as I’ve been here,” she began her eyes trailing to the shelf behind me, I turned slightly to look at the shelf as she continued, “ it was just borrowed out yesterday by some guy,  it’s a rare copy, that's why I remember it so well, plus the guy that borrowed it was quite the catch," she finished with a wink.
My heart fell at this, now getting more desperate, "do you, maybe know when he will be bringing it back. Or who he is in the least?" I asked.
"Two to three weeks tops, that’s how long you’re allowed to borrow a book from the town library, as for his name, he signed it with Legion D.”
I blinked twice at this, mouth slightly open, it couldn’t be the legion I know could it? It was a fairly large town, there could be three or four legions’ wondering about it. I couldn’t jump to conclusions about that.
“He actually came by today,” she began pushing her glasses back up her nose, “actually I didn’t even see him leave. I’m normally not that good with faces my dear but I could never forget that one, I know because he was –“
"Quite the catch, I know," I finished for her, looking around the library. On what coincidence could we be looking for the same book? Plus legion and Library? The only thing relative about those two was the letter L. He was clearly not the nerdy type.
She nodded smartly before turning around, “if you excuse me,”
I stepped aside as the librarian moved past me, calling a thank you after her, and then running a hand through my hair. How on earth was I going to find that book? I groaned moving down the aisles.
What the hell was that guy even doing with such a book?
I paused at the far end of the row, wondering however I would get the one copy out of that thief…I mean…now repented sinners hands. That’s if he was the ‘catch’ the Librarian was talking about but I hardly doubted it.
"You know could just ask me," a sleek voice boomed from behind me causing me to sharply turn around losing my balance, I was caught, being pulled back smoothly coming face to face with the culprit.
Legion.
His dark hair and deep silver eyes danced in amusement as he pulled me back in to catch me from falling quite ungracefully. Immediately his warmth spread through me, and for a split second, I caught his eyes darkening, changing so fast I was sure it was a figment of my imagination. After staring at him for a dull second I pulled away from his grasp standing quite stable on my own two feet. Clearing my throat awkwardly.
"Thank you," I muttered underneath my breath, patting my dress down.
"Mmm?" He asked pretending to not have heard, his grin now evident on his stupidly fine face. I hated to admit the librarian was right, he was a frickin catch and total panty dropper.
"I said thank you!" I repeated louder this time.
"You’re welcome," he replied, his silver eyes watching me intently.
There was an awkward silence between us as I stared back at him.
Well. I guess awkward for me. He seemed to be enjoying staring at me. Yeah, he hardly seemed bothered about the fact that I wasn't saying anything at all.
"I…hmm...I…" Why was I hesitating for the love god!
Why was he staring?
"You want something from me," he finally said, a smirk replaying across his jaw.
My eyebrows drew together faking confusion. I had to find a tactic, a skill if I was going to be able to get the book.
He sighed lifting a book he had been holding that I had only now noticed. Why hadn't I noticed he had a book?
My eyes scanned the cover, Creatures of the Moon.
Yes! This was it. The book I was searching for was a mere hand grab away from me. I reached to take it but he retrieved it, turning away from me, and began walking away without any further words, heading deeper into the library leaving me hanging there, looking like a sheep.
"Hey!" I called after him, following the steady thumps of his footsteps into the next aisle.
"Shh, this is a library," he replied over his shoulder not bothering to turn around. My eyes narrowed at his broad back, since when did he care about rules? The audacity.
"Alright,” I huffed trying to keep up with his long legs, “I just need to see the book."
"What book?" he asked, switching aisles. I rolled my eyes jumping into the next aisle after him.
"Come on," I groaned. I wasn’t playing these games.
"Stop stalking me," he hissed.
My jaw dropped freezing in my footsteps. He disappeared in the next row while I gained my posture.
Me? Stalk him? In. His. Dreams. I turned to the next aisle ready to blow up, but the bastard was nowhere to be seen. I jumped to the next without spotting him, and the next and the next. The jerk had literally disappeared into thin air. I looked around frantically for him but there was no sign in any direction. The stupid track star had bested me once again!
I huffed leaning against a bookshelf after jumping into another row for the third time.
He really was a bastard. "Why would you want to know about supernatural creatures?" A voice asked.
I looked up to see him right in front of me, calm, and cool, collected. Whilst I was huffing like a monkey, from chasing him all over. My eyes widened at the sight of him before me, looking around to where he could have possibly come from.
"How did-where did-" I sighed, massaging the bridge of my nose, this town was going to make me crazy, I just needed a break. I looked up at him folding my arms with a soft sigh, “why do you want to know?"
he looked up at me from his book closing it, eyes strained on me, his tone shifting into a commanding tone that sent a shiver down my spine at the authority of it, "I want to give you this book Kaya, but I want to know what for first, that's my condition. Your turn,"
I studied him for a second, looking at the floor, licking my dry lips, "I'm interested in the supernatural," I admitted. He studied me for a second as if trying to figure out if I was lying or not. The truth is, after it wasn't reading ‘Beasts of the Other Realm,’ I had grown my own personal interest in it.
"Why?"
I chuckled at the question, “What do you mean why? Wouldn't you want to know if there was a whole other world out there?"
He looked away, gritting his teeth, "I think if there was a whole other world out there, it’s hidden for a reason, ignorance is bliss" he added, watching me attentively. I could feel my face heat up under those eyes but I willed myself to look straight in them, "Ignorance is dangerous," I countered.
"A lot of things are dangerous,” he chuckled dryly, giving me a chill, “some closer than you think." There was something dark and sinister in his voice as he said those words.
"How dangerous?" I whispered lowly as I studied his exquisite features from his ash hair to silver eyes, he looked dangerous. His eyes widened as the words I had no control over just slipped out.
He took a step to me, now hovering over me, "the worst kind."
His fingers brushed mine softly and I felt a rush go through me, his eyes focused on our connection, our hands, and the soft crackle of electric current I didn’t know was in the air that sparked around them, my heart taking the place of drums.
It suddenly felt quiet at that moment… just him and I. "There are boys out there Kaya.” He whispered lowly, “Ones that deserve you,” he added, fingers still brushing mine, “then they are beasts,” his jaw clenched when he said this moving closer so my breath hitched, “ones that can hurt you.”
He shut his eyes for a second, his jaw ticking before re-opening them, “I don't want to see you get hurt," he whispered softly before his lips pressed gently on mine. I had never been kissed so plainly yet with so much emotion.
My heart seemed to stop. Time seemed to slow, and when I opened my eyes the thief was gone, only the feeling of mild static on my lips and the book was where our hands had connected.
Torent was a strange town.
