It took me a while to persuade Jax to let me wear the gown I've chosen for "THE" ball. It’s too sexy. He doesn’t really have any ‘against’ comments about me attending ‘THE’ ball. He’s actually so happy and excited about me going.
"It’s too revealing, and so expensive. It’s once in a while, so I say go for it." He said You see? He’s sweet. He’s not an obstacle to the things I want to do, unlike those other people in a relationship.
"Thank you so much. Don’t worry, I’ll get you nice photos. Maybe I’ll get you a shout out from your favorite celebrity too." I kissed him on his cheeks. "So how’s work?" I asked him so that we’re not only talking about me.
"It’s okay. A lot of media guys are bothering us. It’s still a mystery, not to mention that it happened in the city. They’re oddly angry about it." "Why? What happened?" "They are angry that we don’t have anything to say about the suspect for now. I mean, I understand them. They want their city to be safe, but then we can’t just present them with random suspects.” "Why not give them your possible suspect? You know... maybe they can take out something from the possible suspect." Why did I say that? That’s inappropriate. "That’s kind of harsh, and we don’t have any possible suspects." He little-eyed me. "I know, I know. I just realized it after saying it." I look up at the ceiling, then I look at him. "Is that it?"
"Oh, yeah about that. We have some new leads about Kathy’s murder—may she rest in peace." He looked up like he was talking to someone in heaven.
"Oh finally, thank God! What is it? " I asked him. "A witness." He looked at me and I gave him my ‘I’m gonna need more than that’ look.
He rolled his eyes. "Fine, fine." He fixed his sitting position. "Someone heard Kathy arguing with someone about something."
"Does the witness know who it is?"
"Sadly, the witness can’t determine if it’s a male or a female Kathy’s having an argument with."
"That’s sad and so incomplete. Do you think it’ll give the investigation progress? " I asked him. I am so hooked up with her investigation. She’s a friend after all.
He frowned. "No. It’s too little. But I do think that it is a part of a bigger puzzle."
I’m not going to call him an idiot this time. He’s right. That lead is a dead end itself, but it’s definitely a part of a bigger puzzle.
I remember meeting Kathy the first time.
Kathy showed up at my door holding a box of cake. "Hey, I’m Kathy. I moved into apartment 102 last week. " She smiled. "And here is a cake." She handed me the box of cake.
"Oh my, thank you for this." I opened the door even more and signaled her to come in. I put the cake on the table and told her to sit on the couch, then I handed her a small plate and a fork. "I will feel bad if you’re not going to eat this with me." She just laughed and as I sliced the cake, she just sat there without saying one word, which felt weird to me. Maybe she doesn’t like to be here? Or she’s just awkward?
"So…." I sat next to her. "Why here of all places?" why here? I mean, this place is beautiful, but there are so many people who want to be known. There is always drama, arguments, crab mentality, and cameras everywhere. At first you will love it, but as time goes by, it’ll make you feel sick. You'll just want to pack your bags and move somewhere else. “Oh yeah about that. The rent is expensive, but there are so many job opportunities here, unlike where I came from.”
"Oh yeah? Where did you come from?” "South. You already know where. " "Okay, I agree with you. Got any jobs yet? " She moves her head right to left. “Right in time. We got an opening. Do you know how to write? " Throughout the conversation, we talked about my job and how it goes there. I also asked her for her resume so I could forward it to my boss. I was actually surprised that 30 minutes later, she showed up at my door holding her resume.
When I went to work, I went straight to my boss's office. He didn’t even read the resume, but he just said that she was hired and that he trust me to handle this new employee. After office hours before going straight to my apartment, I went to apartment 102.
"Hey, Kathy." "Oh hey Jess." She looks like a wreck, she’s sweaty, and her eyes look so red. "You okay? May I come in?" She covers the door more like she’s hiding something. She just moved here and she’s acting so weird. Maybe she’s really weird or a freak. I backed out. Maybe there’s something odd going on over there and I don’t want to know anything about it. It’s better not knowing and it’s not my business. "Okay… I just want to say Congratulations." I handed her a box of cupcakes. "Congrats on your new job. If you can start tomorrow or not, I’ll tell the boss.” "No, no… I’ll start tomorrow. I’m sorry, there’s just something going on, but I’ll start tomorrow. Sorry about this. Thank you and see you tomorrow. " She slammed the door.
That is so weird. She’s totally weird. Earlier, I adored her. Now? I don’t think so. She’s so mysterious and she’s kind of giving me a scare.
Before I entered my apartment, I heard a noise in the hallway. It came from apartment 102, so I adjusted a little to see what is going on. I won’t say I’m a nosy neighbor, just a concerned one.
I saw a guy being pushed outside the apartment, then I saw Kathy. They’re arguing but also controlling their voices, more like they are whispering while shouting at the same time.
"You think I’m not gonna find you here, huh? I’m always here, always everywhere and you know that I own you." He touched Kathy, pulling her hand. Wow, the audacity of this boy.
"And I will always kick you out over and over again. You’re crazy." She pushed him again.
"I will let you kick me out today and I’ll walk away, but I’ll be back and that’s for sure." He grabbed his cheeks and squeezed them hard. Man, she looks so hurt. "I’ll be here any day, huh? Run and run, but I will always be there. " He walks away.
There’s a part of me that wants to go and ask Kathy what was that and who was that, or if I need to call the police, but I don’t want to be included in her drama.
And I don’t want that boy to harass me too. I don’t even know what’s the root of their problem or the reason that boy followed Kathy all the way here. Kathy lied to me about where she came from, I’m sure of it. She’s not from the South.
My mind is battling between taking my suspicions deeper or jumping out of my conclusions and go inside my apartment to have a nice bath, nice dinner, and get some sleep.
I feel like she’s lying to me about why she moved here. It looks like she’s running from that boy. I just hope that this is not going to affect her work in the office because I’m her front.
