Chapter 2

"Once again, I want to sincerely thank each of you for being here on the most important day of our lives. This means so much to my husband and me, and we will cherish these memories forever." The crowd erupted in applause, with some even shouting, "Congratulations!" and "Best wishes!" to the happy couple.
"I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the person behind all of this. Ms. Amelie, thank you for helping me find my forever! You truly played a vital role in our love story. I hope you find your own happily ever after—oh wait, maybe you already have!" Annette's eyes sparkled as she teased. The bride and I shared a warm laugh, having become friends through this journey.
Everyone turned their attention to Anoush and then to me. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and I felt a knot form in my stomach. Why is everyone staring? I could feel my confidence waver. It's like the spotlight I didn't want turned on me at the most awkward moment.
"Yiiiieeee! Peace, bessy! But you two are really great! Sorry hehe! Thank you so much for everything, bessy!" I smiled and joined in the applause.
Get ready for me, Annette! Let's really figure it out next time!
After the occasion, I went home immediately because of the intensity of fatigue. My day off is tomorrow because, of course, for every successful job I have with a client, I have one free day the next day. Though tired, there's a certain satisfaction that comes from knowing I've helped two people find happiness. That thought often makes the fatigue feel like a small price to pay.
So I really made the most of it as I did on the past day off. On these precious days off, I get the chance to indulge in my favorite activities. I go to the bookstore and buy a bunch of books. I also watched a movie, ate a lot at restaurants, and of course, shopping! Not many people know how much I enjoy these quiet moments with just myself and my thoughts, but it's these little things that help me recharge for the next big matchmaking challenge.
At the mall, I see a lot of couples who are so sweet, PDAs! These moments sometimes stir something deep down in me, a fleeting thought of what it might feel like to have someone to share those special moments with. But I quickly brush it aside, reminding myself that I'm not jealous. I'm actually enjoying my single life!
When single, it costs less! When single, no problem! And when single, I’m free! Single is life!
I turned on the music in the car and happily drove the car. I came out of the parking lot, but suddenly stopped when I was about to hit the guy! He was crossing as if he didn't even care!
I quickly got out of the car and checked if the man was okay. He bent down and sat on the ground. My heart was pounding in my chest as I rushed over to the man. The sound of my own footsteps was drowned out by the loud thrumming in my ears.
"Are you all right, sir?" I asked worriedly, kneeling beside him. The sight of his elbow, already scratched and bleeding slightly, triggered a pang of guilt in my stomach.
"Sh*t! It hurts!" he exclaimed, a grimace contorting his face as he gingerly cradled his injured arm. I instinctively reached out, my fingers brushing the raw skin with an apologetic touch, trying to assess the extent of his injury.
"I-I'll take you to the hospital!" I insisted, my voice rising in pitch with concern. I helped him stand up, feeling his weight shift onto me, but he just pushed me away, causing me to stagger back. The shock from his rejection left me momentarily speechless, my outstretched hands now hovering awkwardly between us.
"Don't! I might have another accident!" he sighed and turned to me. Suddenly, his eyes widened at the sight.
"Y-you!" I jumped in shock when he suddenly pointed at me.
"M-me?" I pointed to myself. He was stunned for a moment and grinned. He shook his head.
"Nothing." he stood up and faced me. "Next time, look at the road as well. You have a car, but you don't know how to drive." he said sarcastically.
"Hey! I'm sorry, but don't act as if I'm the only one who has a fault! We're both to blame for this! Don't feel like a victim! It's your fault that you don't have a care on your way, so you didn't see me coming!" I scolded.
"Am I really?!" he said angrily. "Yes, you! Next time, look where you're going to! So you don't crash! I offered to go to the hospital, but you don't want to! I'm willing to lend my hand here, but you rejected it!" I said with annoyance.
"You know, you're a blabbering person. I thought you were nice--"
"Oh then what, damn it?! Who wouldn't be angry?! For your information, I'm just kind to the person who's kind to me, too, alright?"
"Tss..just leave, what a freak!"
"Hey! I'm not a freak! You're a freak! And besides that wound of yours, if you don't want help, then help yourself!" I growled.
"Tss..what a blabbering girl."
"Because--" I didn't finish what to say when he walked away. "Bad guy!" I shouted before getting into the car. I came home in a bad mood.
The next day, I came to the office with a new client again. Well, that's expected. Clients flock to me every day.
"Amelie, Mr. President is our new client! I mean, his son!" Denny seemed to be in a hurry.
"What?! OMG! Where's the president?" I asked.
"She's in Ms. Bernadeth's office now." We started walking towards our head office.
"I heard in their conversation with Ms. Bernadeth that Mr. President had a hard time applying here because many people are asking for help just to be given they're match too. It's a good thing that he got in!" she said in amazement as she hurried.
We exited the elevator and went straight to Ms. Bernadeth's office. Ms. Bernadeth and Mr. President are on the sofa now while talking. They stood up I was amazed when he greeted me with kindness.
"Good morning, Ms. Amelie Madigan." the president smiled and shook my hand. "Good morning, too, Mr. President. Let's sit down." We all sat down.
"So, Amelie, Mr. President's son is our new client. And Mr. President and I want you to be the matchmaker. As a Ms. Matchmaker, you have to work hard on this, and we all trust that you can do it. Do you accept this job?" I smiled at what Ms. Bernadeth said.
“It’ll be my honor, Ms." I said happily. And then we already signed the contract with Mr. President. I even asked Mr. President why he signed instead of his son; he said that his son didn't want to, so he will be the one to sign.
Then I went with Mr. President to his house because he said he would introduce his son to me, and for me to gather information, except for the information I am reading today.
When we arrived, his son had not arrived yet. I found out that his son did not live here. But only in a condominium.
"He visits here from time to time. Let's wait, he will arrive here sooner or later," said the President while sipping a cup of coffee.
I just nodded and drank my orange juice. The president's on is private. He doesn't reveal it to the public for an unknown reason, so it's really a mystery who his son is.
I looked around their huge living room! Anyway, it's the president's house, so what do I expect?
Everything is very modern. There are antiques on the side. There are expensive paintings hanging on the wall. The house was bright, but it looked empty because there were only maids and guards. The untimely passing of the First Lady was a profound loss that resonated deeply within the family. She was as perceptive and compassionate as Mr. President, and her absence left an undeniable void in their lives. Tragically, she passed away in an accident two years ago, a loss that Mr. President and his son are still coming to terms with. Her memory lingers in the heart of the household, where her warmth and kindness are sorely missed.
"Oh, here's my son! Son, come here!" The president took my attention, and I turned to his so-called son.
I stood in shock when I saw who Mr. President's son was!
"You're the man who--" I said softly while pointing at the man with bad manners.
"You again?!" he said, annoyed.
"Wait! You're the son of Mr. President?!" I want to faint because I can't accept that this idiot is the son of the best and brightest president in the Philippines!
What the h*ck?!
