“You should've seen his face!”
Aria was doing her laundry, and she was being a little too expressive. Poor clothes.
“Ugly! Annoying!”
It was morning and yes, she was ranting to Madam Jina. She just tilted her head, listening tentatively to Aria.
“This Aria girl. What does that even mean?”
“...maybe he…” Madam Jina just started to talk these days. Which means she has already been dead for more than two years.
“No! He is just rude!”
Aria frowned. Her hands stopped folding the clothes.
“Don’t tell me you’re on his team too?”
Madam Jina raised her hands. “No.”
Aria nodded, her face was in complete annoyance.
“I swear, I am going to make his days hell from now on. Pinky swear!”
Madam Jina nodded. Or I might not get my coffee and cake.
“This Aria girl. Oh, God! He pisses me off!”
Madam Jina just stayed put like a good ghost that she was, blinking and supporting Aria as she went on.
“Does strawberry short cake sound good? And strawberry americano?”
Madam Jina nodded, enthusiastically. Strawberry, yummy!
Aria smiled. But then it faded when Riley’s face made an appearance inside her head again.
Bigfoot!
.
.
Another day in the hospital. Meaning another day with the infamous Riley Kim.
Her motto for the day was to avoid Riley, but it was completely destroyed when she saw him practically waiting at the nurses’ station. Her table.
“Oh hi.”
Aria bowed. “Dr. Kim.”
Riley was signing off the charts, somehow, Aria caught his attention.
“Don’t you look fresh?”
Aria smiled. Professional, Aria, please.
“It’s morning, Dr. How are you?”
Riley grinned. “After a twelve hour shift? Amazing.”
Aria just nodded. “The coffee downstairs is good. Triple shot.”
Riley pouted. “I don't really do coffee.”
He tapped his stomach slightly. “Very sensitive tummy.”
Aria nodded. Now, she knew a way to kill Riley without using poison.
“So, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” Riley put his pen inside his shirt’s pocket. Ready to go home.
“I’ll be here.”
Aria pulled the chair out, started the day with reports.
Riley walked away, smiled when he saw other nurses, greeting as he went away.
“Don’t you look fresh? Bigfoot!” She mimicked Riley’s words. She didn't know Lena was there.
“I told you, you like him.”
Aria shut her eyes. She glared at the ghost. Lena was sitting on the counter.
“Do that one more time…” She whispered as she looked around.
Lena surrendered and slid away.
Even the ghosts are pissing me off today. Annoying!
.
.
“Room six needs a blood draw, and also…have you seen Dr. Kim around?”
Aria looked up. Everyone was taller than herself. Being short has been an inconvenience to her since day one.
“Noted. He just finished his shift.”
Dr. Lee just nodded. Her face somehow dropped a little. Disappointed.
“He is handsome, right?”
They walked in the hall together.
“If you say so.” Aria was busy jotting down the notes for whatever she needed to do.
Hanna Lee was dumbfounded. She hit Aria’s shoulder.
“If you ever get married in the future, that is the kind of face you want to go for.”
“A sharp nose, hazel eyes, long lashes, thick brows, luscious lips, and such a sharp jawline.”
Dr. Lee was looking rather in heaven.
“Such goodness.”
“Not for Aria.” Brett came out of nowhere.
Dr. Lee gasped. “How dare you?” She put her hands on her chest, acting offended.
Aria laughed. “I guess that bigfoot is just not to my liking.”
Brett frowned. “Bigfoot?”
Aria nodded. “Yeah, big, tall, long lashes and all that.”
Dr. Lee laughed. “Not exactly wrong.”
“Hey, blood draw. Stat!”
Dr. Lee walked away, leaving Brett and Aria at the counter.
“Unlike you, I don't gossip. Got blood to draw, a diaper to change and an IV to administer. Good day, Mr. Brett.”
Brett pouted. He just wanted a quick update. You’re no fun, Aria.
.
.
Another day passed. Aria barely got to sit today. The patients kept coming in and they just kept her in shape. That was one thing she is grateful for. For having a sleeper build.
She could literally carry everything and smash everything with her tiny body.
Hopefully someday she can practice on a certain bigfoot.
“Here.”
Brett handed her a cup of coffee. Iced and from how it smells, three shots.
“Ah, thank you. Finally, I get to breathe.”
Brett laughed.
“That was from Dr. Kim.”
Aria frowned. “What?”
“He came by, and bought us cakes and coffee.” She sat on the chair, ready for her last report for the day.
Her frown deepened. She took a sip. Yup, that's the taste.
Heavenly.
“Why?”
“Meeting. He is one of the board members.”
Aria nodded.
His position wasn't handed to him because he was one of the Kims. He was glamorous on his own, the nice and arrogant doctor everyone was talking about. People also said that he was crazy, somehow his crazy saved a lot of lives.
He studied in Oxford, top of his class every semester, and conducted groundbreaking research.
Just amazing. She wondered how he even had time for all that.
And he is only thirty seven years old. Two years older than me, she thought.
How did she know all this? Thanks to Brett, Riley’s walking Wikipedia.
“That one is specially delivered by the deity himself.”
Aria frowned. “Mine?” She pulled the cup up.
Brett nodded.
“Three shots.” He added.
Aria let out a sigh.
You got a point today, bigfoot Riley.
