Chapter 5 v. family wrecker
Sairenne’s Point of View Revecca shot to her feet and glared at me, fingers tightening around her wine glass until the veins in her neck stood out. Her useless brother stood as well, rubbing her back as if that would calm her. Seems I touched the one nerve I wasn’t supposed to. She looked ready to devour me. No—that’s the wrong image. She isn’t a lion. She’s a snake. “What did you just say?” my mom, Celeste, asked, clearly unaware of anything. Of course. Dad had already cut ties with them. He even made me do something humiliating just so he’d “support us”—but all of it was a lie. I lifted an eyebrow at Revecca and smirked. “She’s a home wrecker. She had an affair with a married man. We can’t let someone like her stain our family name, Mom.” If you can’t defeat someone—turn the situation in your favor. Celeste inhaled sharply before shooting her guests a cold glare. “You can still defend yourselves, Revecca.” “She’s lying! She’s obviously lying! My husband worked in our company for years, and he never mentioned having a family,” Revecca snapped. “My sister’s right,” Vrent added. “And how would you even know that, Celestia?” I looked briefly at Xavier—he was trembling with anger. I had no idea he was this protective of Celestia. I clicked my tongue and turned to Vrent. “Who do you think I am?” A line Celestia always used crossed my mind—how she’d declare herself with confidence. Surprisingly, it finally worked in my favor. “Why? Who do you think you are?” Vrent asked, eyes practically bulging. I smirked. “I’m Celestia Fontaverde… and I have my ways. For example… I know who your husband’s child is, Mrs. Revecca. She’s my classmate. A genius, known for her grades. Her name is Sairenne Gomery.” Revecca froze. Shock washed over her face—but she had no idea how I knew. I sighed and turned to Celeste. “Do a background check, Mom. Use your authority as Celeste Fontaverde. I’m sure you’ll uncover the truth about that woman.” After this, Celestia should thank me. I didn’t just save her from some creepy guy and a mistress—I even proved to her mom that she’s capable of things like this. “Renne,” Xavier whispered. I turned to him. “Can we step out for a moment?” His eyes were cold—meaning Celeste’s insults still stung. I didn’t know they treated him like this. How could he stay by Celestia’s side all this time? Is she really different from her mother? I nodded, and he led the way out of the dining hall. Celeste was too busy scolding her guests to stop us. She was surely disappointed. Serves them right—home wreckers, the both of them. That woman had no idea how hard life became for us after Dad left when Ruxe and I were still kids. I could never forgive her. How could I? She never even apologized. “Xavier… is that how they always treat you?” He stopped walking and faced me. “Actually… this is the first time it happened. I always thought Tita wanted me to end up with Celestia. I don’t know why she suddenly wants to set her up with a de Villa.” So Celestia herself had no idea this would happen. Then again, all she thinks about is makeup. Convenient how the body swap happened right before Celeste changed her mind. “Why though? Did you do something, Xavier?” He shook his head. “I didn’t do anything—except the fact that I only see Celestia as a sister.” “A sister? I thought—?” “I only see her that way. And she knows it. I think Tita Celeste finally realized it too.” If that’s the case… I can’t leave this body yet. The de Villas are planning something—I can feel it. Revecca isn’t trustworthy. And if she keeps appearing in front of me… then I finally have the chance to avenge my mom and Ruxe. They humiliated me too—at Race’s party, Dad’s son with Revecca. I will get revenge. And I need Celestia’s identity to do it. “We’re not leaving yet, Xavier. I’ve decided.” “What decision? Don’t tell me you’re planning to ruin Celestia’s life.” I shook my head. “I won’t destroy her life. But I’ll use her identity to get revenge. I won’t let that woman live happily with my father.” “Renne, you can’t do this. I know you’re hurting… but please think this through,” he said, worry filling his voice. They say everything happens for a reason. Maybe this body swap didn’t happen by accident. Maybe I was given this chance—to make them feel what they made me feel. But when I met Xavier’s eyes—eyes that looked like the whole world was collapsing on him—my chest tightened. A part of me wanted to listen. But… “Sorry, Xavier. If you’re scared or disappointed, you can avoid me. I can—” “I won’t leave you.” He pulled me into his arms, and I couldn’t help but smile. “Now that you’re here… I’ll stay. But after everything, promise me you’ll return to your own life. Give everything back to Celestia.” I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in his chest. “I promise.” Wait— Aren’t we forgetting something? I’m using Celestia’s body. So if anyone sees us, they’ll think Xavier and Celestia are dating. This is going to be very awkward when I return to my real body.
