Chapter 3 iii. her mother
Sairenne’s Point of View How did this happen? If I’m in Celestia’s body… then why out of all people in the world did I have to end up in hers? Xavier sat on the edge of the bed and opened a dark brown bottle for treating wounds. “You should’ve been more careful. Now look at you—you’ve been asleep for three days.” “Three days?!” I threw the blanket off me and rushed to the huge mirror by Celestia’s closet. My knees gave out the moment I saw my reflection. “This can’t be happening! What about—” “Celestia? Are you okay? You’re acting weird. Is this about how you looked while sleeping?” Xavier asked, so I lifted my gaze to him. “X–Xavier…” He raised a brow and set the tray down on the bed. He immediately walked toward me, staring me down like we were in a contest. “Are you mad at me? Is it because I didn’t go with you to the clinic?” Oh—right. Celestia calls him “Sivy.” But that’s not who I am. I’m Sairenne Gomery, and I have no idea what I’m doing in her body. I covered my mouth with my palm. “This is bad…” “Celestia, come back to your senses! Wake up!” Xavier snapped. “Ruxe…” I blurted. Who knows what that witch is doing to Ruxe and Mama right now? She probably has all sorts of evil plans now that she’s in my body. “Xavier, let’s go! I have to see Ruxe—!” I grabbed the sleeve of his sweater, making him frown. “Ruxe?” “Yes, Ruxe, he—” “Who’s Ruxe? Your secret boyfriend?” I sighed deeply. Right… he has no idea I’m Sairenne. “Xavier, listen carefully. And I need you to believe me…” “Why? What’s going on with you? Why are you acting like this?” “I’m not Celestia. I’m Sairenne Gomery,” I said, and he froze for a few seconds. He gripped my shoulders—and then burst out laughing like a crazy person. I frowned and exhaled sharply. “Xavier!” I snapped. He finally stopped and looked into my eyes again. “Come on. Stop talking nonsense and let’s treat your wound. The impact must be strong since even your thinking got affected.” He helped me stand, and I reluctantly followed. This man is unbelievable. “Okay, fine. The other day Celestia didn’t enter the classroom, so everyone asked where she was. Only Gallant knew. When the bell rang, I left the classroom and went to the rooftop! Please believe me, I’m not Cele—” I didn’t finish because Xavier grabbed my head and covered my mouth. His jaw was clenched as he stared toward the door. “You’re right—you’re not Celestia. She would never dare shout that.” I shook my head until he finally let go. He walked to the door and closed it deliberately. “Listen. Be careful with whatever you say. If you really are Sairenne, you’ll understand my instructions.” “Why?” “Celestia’s mom is extremely strict. She’s not allowed to say that word. She’s Celestia, after all. And for the record, I almost didn’t get permission to enter this room,” he whispered. I nodded and sat down on the bed. Now that we’ve switched bodies… what am I supposed to do to switch back? This is that witch’s fault! How was I supposed to know she was telling the truth? Xavier removed the bandage on my head. “How did the two of you even switch? Is that even possible?” “I still can’t believe it either. I met a woman on the rooftop. She said her name was Celia, and she called herself a wish granter. She said she could grant anything. I thought she escaped from a mental facility, so out of nowhere, I said I wanted to be Celestia. I never thought she could actually do it.” I frowned. “I didn’t even know the pill she gave me was real.” “Then what’s your plan now?” I shrugged. “I want to switch back, but I don’t know how.” A knock came from the door, and I quickly sat up straighter, turning my eyes toward it. I held my breath as it opened. A woman in a red dress trimmed with fur stepped inside. She wore white gloves that matched her pearl necklace. Her brow was raised as she looked at me, so I forced a smile. So this is how rich Celestia really is. But her mom… is terrifying. “Celestia, once you’re done, follow me to the dining area. We have an important visitor.” I sucked in some air and smiled before nodding. “Y-yes. I’ll be there right away,” I replied. She rolled her eyes and sighed. “Good. I’ll allow you this time. Since we’re serving beef steak for breakfast, you’re allowed a maximum of five bites.” And with that, she closed the door. Beef steak?! And only five bites? What kind of injustice is this? Life was better in my own body. I could eat whatever I wanted—well, on the rare occasions we had something nice—but still! Celestia is insanely rich, but FIVE BITES?! I shivered. “I need to get back to my body immediately.” “But you don’t know how. And besides, you should follow Celestia’s mom unless you want to get into trouble,” Xavier countered, so I looked at him. I crossed my arms and raised a brow. “Whose side are you even on? Celestia’s mom?” He chuckled lightly as he rewrapped my bandage. “Look, Renne…” He called me by my name. That means he believes me. Finally. “…I know Celestia. While you’re in her body, you’re not free, and you won’t be able to leave this mansion easily—especially since we don’t have classes today.” I could do nothing but nod. Everything was a mess. And even though I despise the witch who owns this body, I don’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble. For now, I have no choice but to follow along… until I find a way out. “…I know Celestia.
