They were four hefty men. The way the incidence happened it showed they have been planning him for a while. They presented him to Jennie’s father in his sitting room. In as much as he is a mean man he was a good looking man at his mid age. This is exactly where Jennie got her beauty. Dylan doesn’t need to see her mother, her father was enough.
“So you are the rascal that doesn’t want my daughter to be responsible?” Jennie’s father asked with a thick slow voice.
Dylan stared at him with disdain not knowing what to answer him.
“I am speaking to you! Have you suddenly lost your voice? I believe this is not how you play it to deceive my daughter. You speak, you use words, cunning and sensitive words to turn her mind. You meddle with her mind. But I can’t still comprehend which word you use and how you use them?”
“Sir, I am sorry if I have done things the way I shouldn’t have done them. But I am not a bad person as you might have assumed. It’s true I don’t have money but I love your daughter so dearly and wouldn’t let anything happen to her..”
'hahahahahahah” the man laughed and laughed. Making Dylan feel embarrassed. “How can a pauper like you be so confident about protecting my daughter? How are you going to do that? Look let me tell you, I am not my daughter therefore, you can’t convince me the same way. Besides I am too old for that. I am not a child anymore and will never become. My daughter cannot marry where she can beg to eat and cloth. And as we talk right now she has a man. Soon they will be united, so I advice you to save your life first”
“Excuse me sir” one of the security men requested. “Some boys are at the gate causing commotion”
Dylan knew it was his brothers. They could not go without him. Instead they have come back to face what they were running from.
“They were with him” One of those that chased them said. The landlord asked for Dylan to be thrown out. As they go, Dylan was not sad only about of his condition but also about how Jennie will be treated behind doors. Even if she’s the only child, the words her parents will use on her won’t be soft at all.
He Kept recalling what Jennie’s father said to him concerning class. How he was insulted because they are not up to their standard. He felt so intimidated, embarrassed, humiliated and condemned. He sat to reason it. What exactly makes him different from them if not just the privilege money gave them? Why should money be their aim and not their daughter's happiness? Dylan sat with his brothers to plan on what to do to get money.
“Let’s kidnap the so called fiance” Mata suggested.
“Good idea” Nazi concurred. “We will keep him until the marriage time is over. So after that we will release him. Jennie’s father being impatient man may think he was simply avoiding to marry his daughter and might end the marriage”
“No, I disagree. It’s risky. They will come heavily against us after all things. You can’t face wealthy men. We will regret this” Rickie advices.
“So what do you suggest we do?”
“I don’t really know”
“No idea, no agreement. You keep castigating”
“Money is not made in a day. Have you not been working from childhood, why haven’t we made money? We want to become rich suddenly because we got insulted and deprived? Don’t let what people say to you destroy your mentality. We are going to be rich if we must be. Jennie must be our sister in-law if she’s meant to be. Whatever we can not get is not ours so we have to let go. Let’s not get stranded. We were doing something and we can still do it. Let’s go back to it” The was Rickie speaking.
“Fishing right? Good idea!” Dylan said.
“Fishing?” Nazi asked disagreeably.
“Yeah. I forgot to tell you what my eyes saw yesterday. Fishes I saw were almost the size of humans”
“Where?”
“At the river bank, those guys”
“Where did they catch them?”
“We will find out”
