Chapter Four

I was going to ask my grandma if it was a ghost who was watching and following me wherever I went and went, but she interrupted, so I let her continue.
"Don't be so shocked by what I'm going to say, son, but..."
"But what? Please tell me, Mother." I pretended to be intimidated, but surely I'm just catching the sarcasm.
"But everything is just a joke." She chuckled. "Hahahaha."
"Hahaha!" I laughed. "Please stop intimidating me, grandma, because that can only happen when it's cool in hell," I lied.
"Seriously son, there's an entity who's watching and following you wherever you go and go."
"Ahaha! For sure, that's just another joke. What—whatt!?" ( Is there someone watching and following me? For goodness' sake, grandma, don't tell me that it was a ghost who fell in love with me because of my attractive looks.)
My grandmother seemed to be smelling something, as if she'd found the entities that were following me. I raised my arm and smelled my armpit to know if she was smelling something wrong from it, but nothing. There was just some inexplicable smell that came from the ground of the lawn. I don't want to mention it—that's an animal's embarrassment.
"Son, it's a little stinky here. Let's get inside the house first, then tell me about what you needed to ask or about the things that were messing with your mind."
I jump out of the swing and walk towards the door, following my grandmother. I was surprised when I looked back, because it seemed like someone was still swinging, though there was nobody sitting on it.
"Grandmother, maybe you're right that someone (a ghost or entity) that was following is now here," I said.
The thing made my grandmother look back and seemed surprised by what she saw, although there was no one else except us. Grandma's eyeballs turned big, like real balls that are used in basketball.
"It's a bad sign, son. Let's get inside first," Grandma replied.
She hurriedly opened the door of her house, and we entered there. The door boomed when Grandma slammed and locked it, as if she didn't want anyone to enter the house.
I'm curious. "What did you see, mother?" I queried.
"Nothing, maybe it was just a mirage, nor was it just the breeze that was swinging there." Grandma sat down on the wooden chair beside the wooden table.
Everything around this house looked antiquated, and my grandma was also antiquated. It only means one thing: my grandmother is so caring because she made everything stay longer in this house.
"Do you mean that you saw someone swinging outside?" I asked. "Grandmother, please tell me, everything might not just be your mirage, because you can see ghosts, right?"
"Son, not everything we saw was real; sometimes it was just our mirage, illusion, and mind-made. We can't predict the real thing, because in just a blink of an eye, they'll disappear as fast as lightning."
It ain't funny, but my grandmother's antiquated version of herself seems to show again. I couldn't understand her words, and I don't know what she was talking about. Her words seemed to be stars that shined above the immeasurable distance from the gutter where the current topic lies.
"But don't worry, son, because I had not smelled any bad intentions that someone had for you. Instead, it smells like the splendour of blooming flowers in Providence."
I don't know why my grandmother seems to tell me that the entity following me doesn't have any bad intentions. How can she say that if that ghost wants to sleep beside me? To take a bath with me? That ghost seemed to be a harlot when it was still living in this world.
"Grandma, please tell me more about the entity that was following me wherever I went." I sat down on the chair made of polished wood beside my grandmother.
My grandmother replied, "This thing is not just a joke, son, but there is a ghost who admired you so much, and that's why she's always following you."
It's good to know that the entity that's following me is a girl, because my grandmother said the pronoun "she." I will be crazy if a hermaphrodite is the one following me.
I already said that the ghost admired me so much because of my attractive looks. How could I see her face if she's already a ghost? Is it just this? Maybe she'll just follow me wherever I go and serve as my body guard.
"Grandma, do you know how to prevent that ghost from following me? Because she's not giving me privacy. Even if I just urinate, she's still watching," I said.
"Sorry Ezekiel, but I could not do anything to prevent that ghost from following you. I can only stop her if she has bad intentions, just like if she wants to enter into someone's body or hurt another for personal reasons."
My grandma isn't totally good at driving those ghosts away, because she doesn't even know how to drive a ghost that wants to do nothing but imitate what I'm doing.
It's amusing to talk with my grandmother while eating potato chips. Meanwhile, I seem to have forgotten why I came to this house. Fortunately, I remembered it before going back to my home. Actually, I don't want to go home anymore, because I'm a bit afraid that the ghost will do something wrong to me.
"Grandma, can I ask you a favor?" I asked.
"What kind of favor, son?" My grandmother asked. "You might be scared, but don't tell me that you want to sleep here tonight because you are afraid to go back home."
"You guessed it near mother, but it's not that."
She lowered her head, transferred her eyes, and looked directly at me. Telling or asking me if what I wanted to ask her was.
"Grandma, I just want to ask if you can examine my friend's house, because it seems that there's the presence of an entity that's making trouble there and that might be the reason why Kiko's mother died."
"So do you mean that you feel the presence of an entity in your friend's house? That's a new gift, grandson, that you also have the capability of being a paranormal doer."
"Honestly, I didn't feel the presence of an entity, but I just knew it by investigating their house and the happenings."
"Stop telling lies, son. You might just be kidding me."
"Mother, please believe me, because my mother also died for the same reason as what happened to Kiko's mother."
"Okay, don't worry, I will visit you if I have time. You might just want me to go with you because you are scared of the ghost that's following you. You may now go back home, because your father might be searching for you this time."
I don't know how to make my grandma believe the things that I've observed, and I'm not the kind of boy who coerces someone to believe something just on my own inference.
The wooden chair awoke from a deep dormancy when I stood up. I went outside the old house where my grandmother lived. I was just forced to go outside, though I didn't want to get near the ghost that was following me.
For the second time, there was someone swinging again. I didn't do anything but walk swiftly and go out onto the grassy lawn of my grandmother's house. I didn't pay attention to the delirious ghost, as if I didn't know that she was with me.
I feel relieved when I remember my grandma's word, that this ghost doesn't have any bad intentions towards me, but it smells like a blooming flower in Providence? I can't understand her words, even though I've thought about it many times.
What I thought is that it's good that I won't be alone anymore, especially right now. But who's with me? "is the question that I've been thinking about since I left Grandma's house. Who's this ghost that's always with me these days? I thought she'd answer me if I asked who she was.
"Hey, miss ghost! Who are you?" I asked.
I may definitely look crazy because of talking alone. I made sure that nobody was watching me before asking this ghost—that didn't have any plan to answer me. I'm just listening carefully, though there's no one talking.
Walking down a quiet street is what I currently do. The ghost never said anything to me, especially when my schoolmate and friend named Chocokate went towards me. Maybe the ghost doesn't want to talk to me if there's another person who's going with me.
"Ezekiel, what are you up to?" Chocokate asked.
"Kate! You surprised me. I came from my grandmother's house, and I'm going home now. How about you?"
"Oh!" She's surprised. "You came from your grandmother's?"
"Yup, there is just something that I needed to know."
"I see... I will be buying something in the store there. By the way, would you like to tell me about that something you needed to know from your grandmother?"
Miss, you're intruding in my own business. Don't you have yours? Instead of saying those words, I didn't, because I don't want to become unfriendly just because of little things.
"Maybe it's caused by a ghost. You know, there are many weird things that have been happening to Kiko's family lately because of something that couldn't be seen. Maybe it's caused by a ghost."
Kate Choco (my classmate and friend) is currently walking with me in the quiet street. Kate didn't believe in the devil and ghosts, but do she judges people who seemed to be psycho?
"Ahahaha!" Kate tried to laugh normally.
"You might be delirious, Ezekiel, but don't worry. I'm not like our classmates, and I don't want to judge the things that you wanted to do. Meanwhile, I won't believe in ghosts as long as I can't see one. Just visit me if you need my help because I'm always game for any paranormal activity," she said.
I replied, "I understand if you don't believe in ghosts, because we were just the same. I also didn't believe in ghosts before, but recently, something changed my belief."
"What do you mean? Have you seen a ghost?"
"Naught—" I moved closer to her. "But there's a ghost who's always following me wherever I go," I whispered.
Chocokate seemed to be a statue that was stuck staring right at me when he heard those words that came out of my lips. Meanwhile, I'm just putting my hands in the pockets of my maroon cloak while slowly drifting down the street.
"Are you sure? That sounds scary, Ezekiel. ‘You might just be kidding and scaring me.’ What did I do wrong to you?"
