Chapter 4

Hiemez’s POV
We were at Weyli’s Grocery Mall, buying food for dinner and stocking up. Just the three of us went—some of our friends were too tired after today’s exams.
“Okay, Heim, you’ll get the wine, milk, cabbage, four big carrots, green pepper, and pasta, okay?” Ved said as she handed me the list. I took it and told them I’d go ahead. I also reminded them we’d meet at counter number 16. They nodded, and we split up to get what we needed.
I grabbed a tray and went looking for the wine, but all I saw were beers.
“Excuse me, where can I find the wines?” I asked a staff member. He told me they were at the very back, near the junk food section. I thanked him and walked over.
Once I reached the back, I saw a lot of wines on the left side. I wasn’t sure how many to get, so I just grabbed five bottles, all different flavors.
What’s next? Milk, cabbage, and pasta, right?
“NOOO! I want CHOCOLATE!!”
I heard someone crying. I looked around and saw a cute little boy hugging a box of chocolates while crying. A girl in a hoodie took it from him and put it back. He started crying again. Normally, I don’t butt into other people’s business—but the kid was really cute.
“It’s okay, kid. I’ll buy it for you,” I said, walking toward them with a smile. The boy stopped crying and smiled at me. I looked up to see who was with him—
And then I just froze. I couldn’t move.
“No need, Heimez. He can’t have one,” the girl said. “Weyz, come on, let’s go. Stop acting like a baby.” She grabbed his hand.
“Just buy him one, Trixy. It’s not that expensive. What, are you broke?” I said sarcastically.
“Why do you even care? Mind your own business,” she snapped back, trying to pull Weyz away again, this time by his shirt.
“Fine! I’ll buy it then. My treat, geez.” I grabbed Weyz’s shirt, pulling him toward me.
“Okay, fine! He's allergic to chocolate, okay?! You want him to DIE?!” she screamed. Good thing we were at the very back of the store. I looked down, embarrassed.
“Don’t be sorry, Heimez. You don’t get it. You don’t have a heart, and you don’t know how to treat people the way they treat you.” She held Weyz’s hand and walked away.
It was my first time seeing her like that. I just wanted to forget what happened and go home. Once I finished picking everything, I went to the cashier, but Jennie and Irene weren’t there. I grabbed my phone and started calling.
“Hi, penguin! Zupp,” Jeimy answered, laughing.
“Where in the hell are you two?” I almost yelled.
“Almost there,” she said.
Almost?! Is she making out with someone or something? I swear to God…
“Can you just hurry up!?” I hung up as I saw Ved walking toward me. She had bought a lot of stuff. Was that tape? And a binder?
“Are you planning to kill someone tonight?” I asked her.
“No,” she replied.
“Then why did you buy so much? Don’t tell me you’re gonna eat it all?” I laughed. “You’re not human!”
“Shut up. Oh, guess who finally showed up…” she said, smirking.
I looked where she was staring—and Jeimy’s uniform wasn’t even buttoned properly. Irene and I looked at each other. We knew what was up, but we didn’t say anything. We just wanted to leave.
---
“Fay, Azariah, open the door, please!” We were standing outside, carrying all the groceries. Good thing the bags weren’t heavy. As soon as the door opened, I rushed inside, making the two of them yell at me. So cute, hahaha. I sat on the couch and turned on the TV—Mr. Bean was on.
“WOOHOO!! A teacher texted me!” Fay shouted and jumped around like a kid. We just stared at her.
“Stop looking at me like that! It’s an announcement, okay?! Ahem!” she cleared her throat.
“Hello students, this is Mr. Trew, the principal of OMU. Sorry for the late update, but all of you will have only six days off starting tomorrow. All teachers need to attend THPL and participate there. But we will send all exams to the school website, so please open and answer them by tomorrow. Good luck!”
“Ughhh, I hate them,” Fay said. “My brain can’t take this anymore. Like, we just studied heart parts in science, but the whole exam was about math?! Why??”
We all laughed and agreed. Even music and health had math questions.
---
I turned off my phone, got up from the couch, and went to the kitchen.
“Is it done yet?” I asked. They looked at me and said, “Almost.”
Azariah told me there were apples and grapes in the fridge and cupcakes in the oven.
“Do you guys have plans this weekend?” I asked.
“Nothing much. Maybe just go to the bar again or party,” Fay giggled.
Too shy to admit she wants girls, haha.
“How about you, Jeimy? Got anything in that brain of yours?” I teased.
She just glared at me and mouthed, ‘Fuck you.’ HAHAHAHA.
“If you’re all free, maybe we can have a sleepover here. Invite all our crackhead friends, watch Netflix, play games,” I suggested.
Wow—her brain still works? Didn’t expect that.
“Okay then, text them if they’re in so we can buy snacks and drinks,” I said as I grabbed some plates and spoons.
“VED! AZARIAH! Food’s ready!” I called. I sat down with Jeimy.
“So how’s your boyfriend, Heimez?” Jeimy asked. “Did he already find someone new? Hahahaha. Or maybe he has two now!”
“What kind of nonsense is that?” I said, not even looking at her. “Like he could cheat on me.”
“We can be blind like colors, you know. That’s why there’s a thing called colorblind,” Azariah said proudly.
“I’m going to my room now. I need to review for tomorrow,” I told them and walked off. I lay down on my bed…
…and didn’t even notice I fell asleep.
