He is lying on the bed with a folded note in his hand. He just got back from a shower and his hair is still dripping wet. He is still thinking about what Kendrick said. A favor? He wondered what that has to do with him. He opened the note. So that’s what he wants him to do. After reading the note, he burned it leaving no trace.
It’s already been a week since they went back to the city. Now that Gunther’s gone, he wondered what she will do if she found out. He looked inside to see her but according to the housekeeper, she never left her room. So she only served her food by the door. It is fine as long as she eats. And now that he’s there, he will have her out of the room.
He left the office works to Harvin. He did not only work underground but he has normal business too. In fact, he owns airlines, malls, and resorts. Now that Kendrick passed away, and since he has no heir, his business was passed down to him according to his last will. So, he is now the chairman of Kendrick’s company. It’s also a good thing since Kendrick’s territory belonged to him now. Overall, his organization significantly increased its members overnight. He became a more powerful man. Harvin complained at first since his workload have increased. Then they decided to hire someone who will work as the president of Kendrick’s company.
It’s already nighttime. He might not have noticed that four hours had passed since he arrived. He was at his office all this time. The housekeeper knocked on his door thrice and ask told him that dinner is ready. He ordered her to tell Kelly that she must join him. He waited by the table but twenty minutes had passed, and there was still no sign of her coming. Then the housekeeper came to him and slowly said that Kelly wouldn’t want to. He got mad and went to her room. He knocked and spoke.
“You will join me for dinner.”
“NO! I don’t want to.”
“That’s an order.”
“No.”
“Then starve!” he shouted and walked away. Then he called the housekeeper.
“Do not serve her food unless I say so.”
“Yes, sir.”
He was so mad that he lost his appetite. ‘It was just dinner. Why is it so hard for her to join me.’ he thought and called Harvin.
‘Hello?’
“Harvin, tell me? What is so wrong with having dinner with me?”
‘Huh? What?’
“I even waited for twenty minutes. Then I would just find out that she will not eat with me?”
‘Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying-‘
“I shouldn’t have wasted my time.”
‘Oh! I get it. Did you use your authoritative tone on her?’
“What’s that?”
‘Authoritative. That is what you always use when you give an order.’
“No, I didn’t.”
‘Are you sure? Maybe she just wanted to be alone? Sorry Alex I gotta go. I need to prepare for the interviews tomorrow.’
Harvin then ended the call. He stand by the window and looked at the moon. It looked big and bright. He wondered what he did wrong this time and planned what to do to her tomorrow.
Morning came and he dressed nicely. He planned to go horseback riding and he will ask for her presence to accompany him. He was in a good mood since Kelly accepted his request. They went to the backside of the house where the stables are. There are about ten horses inside. He picked his favorite which is a black horse named Haki. This was his horse since he was a kid. It was still a pony when he first got him. And he raised it but when he started his organization, he only visits him once a month. He was petting his horse when he noticed her standing on the side.
“Go ahead. Pick one”
She was startled but she nodded and looked at the horses one by one. She stopped by the last horse and stared at it not knowing what to do. He approached her and grabbed her hand then let her touch the horse. She was scared at first but she was able to pet the horse. He thinks that the horse suited her.
“Her name is Gerda.”
She looked at him then at the horse and called its name. The horse seemed to like her.
“Would you like to try riding her?”
“Can I?”
“Yes.”
She smiled making him stunned by what he sees. He recovered quickly and told the caretakers to prepare the horse.
They assisted her to ride the horse. She looked so beautiful. He smiled because he was right. The horse really suited her. Its color is white and stands tall. She looked like someone who leads with her poise. So elegant. Then he rode his horse as well.
They moved to the field where they will let the horse run. The area is so big that a whole town could fit in there. It’s a good thing that the weather is nice. The sky is so clear but the sunlight is not scorching hot. It’s perfect weather for an activity like this. He looked at her and saw that she is not having a hard time. It’s like she was used to it.
“So, you knew how to ride a horse.”
“Yes. Back when- Uh! I always watched Gunther before so I kinda learn from it.”
“You learned riding horses just from watching? Interesting. Do you think you can keep up?”
“I’ll try.”
He speed up his pace and looked back to see if she can keep up. And to his surprise, she was there following behind him. Then he increased his speed some more but she was still there. Later on, they found themselves doing a race.
After a few minutes, they stopped and let their horses rest. They sat on the grass and feel the air. They were both sweating and panting. But the look on there can be said that they enjoyed it.
“You are good.”
“Thank you.”
“You even beat me in a race.”
“But that was just once.”
“Still. For someone who is a beginner. That is already an achievement.”
“Uh! Okay then.”
“May I ask you a question?”
“Yes.”
“How long have you been with Gunther?
“Uh! We were together since we were kids.”
“Okay. And how is your relationship with him?”
“We are fine. Sometimes he is nice to me. I don’t get why you want to know these things. You get nothing out of it.”
“You are right. I don’t know why I find you so interesting even though I just met you.”
“What?”
“Nothing. We should head back now. Let’s have lunch together.”
She then nodded. They rode their horses back to the stables and proceeded to their room to clean up. They had their lunch outside since it would be a pity to not enjoy the nice weather. Their lunch was quiet and a little bit awkward but it went well. After that, she just headed to her room saying she wanted some time alone.
He thought that maybe it is because of what happened earlier. But he just wanted to know and wondered that maybe if he knew, he will know how to treat her much better than Gunther. But he still wouldn’t be able to tell her about what happened to Gunther.
Later on, Harvin called saying that he already found someone. Now that the position has been settled, they can proceed to Kendrick’s favor that is written on that note.
