Bab 2 ACCIDENTAL ENCOUNTER OF FAISAL AND RAID’S FATHER

The city streets bustled with the ebb and flow of rush-hour commuters as Faisal Santiago hurried along, her mind a whirlwind of errands and obligations.
Lost in her thoughts, she rounded a corner and collided with someone, her heart leaping into her throat as she stumbled backward.
"Oh, I’m sorry!"
Faisal exclaimed, reaching out to steady the person she had bumped into.
"It's quite all right,"
came the smooth voice of a distinguished gentleman.
Faisal looked up to see Mayor Miguel Elargo, Raid's father, standing before her with a polite smile.
The realization sent a jolt of nerves through Faisal.
"Mayor Elargo! I-I didn’t see you there,"
she stammered, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
The mayor chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
"No harm done, my dear. And please, call me Miguel."
Faisal nodded, feeling the weight of Raid's father's presence bearing down on her.
"I-I hope I didn’t hurt you,"
she muttered, feeling her anxiety rise.
The mayor waved off her concern with a gracious gesture.
"Not at all. I should have been paying more attention. Are you out and about on this fine afternoon?"
Faisal nodded, grateful for the change in topic.
"Yes, just running a few errands,"
she replied, hoping to steer the conversation away from anything too personal.
The mayor smiled, though there was a shrewdness in his gaze that made Faisal uneasy.
"Ah, the joys of city life. And what about you, my dear? What brings you to this part of town?"
Faisal hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. She couldn’t exactly tell him she was on her way to meet his son.
"Oh, just some shopping,"
she replied vaguely, her nerves fluttering beneath her polite façade.
The mayor nodded, though Faisal couldn’t shake the feeling that he was studying her intently.
"Well, it’s always a pleasure to run into familiar faces,"
he said, his smile polite but inscrutable.
"I won’t keep you any longer. Have a lovely day, my dear."
With that, the mayor tipped his hat and continued on his way, leaving Faisal feeling both relieved and unsettled.
She watched him disappear into the crowd, her mind buzzing with questions and concerns.
FAST FORWARD
Meanwhile, in his office at City Hall, Mayor Miguel Elargo sat at his desk, the soft glow of lamplight casting a warm hue over the room as he pondered over his encounter with Faisal. Papers lay scattered on his desk, forgotten amidst the whirlwind of thoughts swirling in his mind.
He leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled beneath his chin, his gaze fixed on the cityscape visible through the window. The distant hum of traffic blended with the soft murmurs of his aides outside, creating a tranquil backdrop to his contemplation.
"What was his son's relationship with this young woman?" Miguel mused aloud, breaking the silence of the office. He shook his head, a faint furrow creasing his brow as he wrestled with his thoughts. "And more importantly, what were her intentions?"
A knock on the door interrupted his musings, and Miguel looked up to see his son Raid entering the room, a hesitant expression on his face.
"Father," Raid began, his voice uncertain. "I wanted to talk to you about something."
Miguel motioned for Raid to take a seat, his curiosity piqued. "Of course, son. What's on your mind?"
Raid hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "It's about Faisal," he said finally, his gaze meeting his father's with a mixture of apprehension and determination.
Miguel's interest sharpened at the mention of Faisal's name. "Ah, yes. I saw her earlier today," he replied, his tone measured. "She seemed quite lovely."
Raid nodded, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his features. "I wanted to ask your opinion on something," he began, his voice tinged with hesitation. "Do you think... do you think Faisal has my best interests at heart?"
Miguel studied his son, the concern evident in Raid's eyes tugging at his heartstrings. "I think," he said slowly, choosing his words with care, "that Faisal cares for you deeply. But whether her intentions align with yours... well, that remains to be seen."
Raid nodded, a thoughtful expression settling over his features. "I understand," he murmured, his gaze distant as he lost himself in thought.
Miguel reached out, placing a reassuring hand on his son's shoulder. "Just remember, Raid," he said gently, "to always trust your instincts. Love can be a complicated thing, but as long as you stay true to yourself, everything will work out in the end."
Raid offered a small smile, gratitude shining in his eyes. "Thank you, Father," he said, his voice sincere. "I appreciate your guidance."
With that, Raid rose from his seat, a newfound determination shining in his gaze as he left his father's office, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As Miguel watched his son go, a sense of pride swelled within him. Raid may be young, but he possessed a strength and resilience that filled Miguel with confidence for the future.
With a final glance out the window at the city below, Miguel turned back to his desk, his mind clear and focused as he returned to his work, ready to face whatever challenges the new day would bring.
A FEW HOURS LATER
Meanwhile, Faisal paced restlessly in her apartment, her thoughts a tangled web of worry and uncertainty. The encounter with Mayor Elargo had left her on edge, a nagging fear gnawing at the edges of her mind. What did he know about her relationship with Raid? And more importantly, what would he do if he decided to intervene?
She glanced at her phone, her heart skipping a beat at the sight of Raid's name lighting up the screen. With trembling fingers, she unlocked the device and read his message, a rush of relief flooding through her as she absorbed his words.
"Hey Faisal, just wanted to check in and see how you're doing. Thinking of you. - Raid"
A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she typed out a reply, her fingers moving with a newfound sense of purpose. "Hi Raid, I'm okay. Just a little worried about everything. But your message means the world to me. Thank you for always being there. - Faisal"
As she hit send, a sense of calm settled over her, knowing that Raid was there for her, no matter what challenges they faced.
Meanwhile, in his penthouse, Raid sat at his desk, his thoughts consumed by his conversation with his father earlier that day. Miguel's words had lingered in his mind, a constant reminder of the complexities of love and relationships.
He glanced at his phone, a pang of longing coursing through him as he thought of Faisal. With a sigh, he picked up the device and typed out a message, his fingers flying over the keys with practiced ease.
"Hey Dad, can we talk? - Raid"
Within moments, his father's reply came through, and Raid's heart leaped with anticipation as he read the message.
"Of course, son. I'm here whenever you need me. - Dad"
With a sense of determination, Raid made his way to his father's office, his mind buzzing with questions and concerns. He knew that Miguel had his best interests at heart, and he needed his father's guidance now more than ever.
In Miguel's office, the mayor sat at his desk, his thoughts drifting back to his earlier conversation with Raid. As his son entered the room, Miguel couldn't help but feel a swell of pride at the sight of him.
"Hey Dad," Raid began, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "I wanted to talk to you about something."
Miguel motioned for Raid to take a seat, his expression attentive as he listened to his son's words.
"It's about Faisal," Raid continued, his gaze searching his father's face for any sign of understanding.
Miguel nodded, a knowing look passing between them. "I understand, son," he said gently. "Love can be a complicated thing, but as long as you trust your instincts, everything will work out in the end."
With a sense of gratitude, Raid nodded, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders as he absorbed his father's words of wisdom.
Back in her apartment, Faisal sat on the edge of her bed, her phone clutched tightly in her hand as she waited for Raid's reply. With each passing moment, her anxiety grew, a thousand different scenarios playing out in her mind.
Finally, the familiar buzz of her phone broke through the silence, and Faisal's heart skipped a beat as she read Raid's message.
"Hey Faisal, I'm here for you. Always. - Raid"
A surge of relief washed over her, and Faisal felt tears prickling at the corners of her eyes as she typed out a response, her fingers moving with a newfound sense of hope.
"Thank you, Raid. That means more to me than you'll ever know. - Faisal"
As she hit send, a sense of peace settled over her, knowing that no matter what challenges lay ahead, she and Raid would face them together, their love stronger than any obstacle that dared to come between them.
